After 2 years in Maya, I didn't know about CTRL in Edit Pivot Mode to Orient the pivot. Very useful trick, my life will be easier than ever haha thanks ! Great tuto
Step by Step?? LUL…
that aside
Nice video actually… Thank you I was able to practice modelling as well as learning new stuff along the way..
keep it up, and be more thorough tho next time, if its not step by step, dont say so…..
Blender is bEtTeR
ok after going forward in this "Tutorial" i must say its very very bad for a Beginner. There are so many hotkeys and points are unexplained so sorry but this is crap
sorry to say, but this Tutorial isnt really for beginners. For example at the beginning. You say you expand the view from front, but how ? For someone who is new he dont know and must search for it
I got completely lost at 22:32. Bridge does not combine the edges for me and I have tried various fixes/workarounds but it still doesn't work properly
yeaa this isn't beginner frendly
What's the hot key you used??
ur accent caught me off guard
is there some easy way to snap the gizmo to the view? when working on something small that goes all the way around the model like that dip by the rim, its very annoying to have to zoom out and move the gizmo then zoom in again to look at what youve moved.
This was extremely useful, but then I've been modeling in Blender for years and am making the switch. God help an actual beginner to modelling trying to follow this. Perfect for me though (with the occasional 5 sec Google)
I'm still in a state of shock that Y is up. This is blasphemy! Not liking messing with gizmos either, Blender has them and nobody uses them. So slow. Not seen any advantages yet to Maya yet, maybe the proportional editing (soft editing I think you called it), I liked the fall off graph. I think that's coming to 2.83.
In blender you can transform edges to a circle/curve but I don't know if Maya has this, I prefer to model from a single primative rather than stitch them together which is a lot of faffing and often leaves you fighting ngons which is just tedious. Anyway, I'm waffling, thanks for the vid.
DUDE I do NOT know how to do a lot of this. I am a super beginner and you are not explaining a lot of this. It's not really for Beginners. it's for someone who knows the buttons but still needs to get a grasp on some of it. I don't know the buttons. if this video was not meant for people like me then you should have said so in the beginning and maybe linked another video showing things like what the buttons do.
Why not draw a spline and spin it? Lot simpler imho.
thank you
you are saving my grrade rn my fucking dude <3
What are the render settings?
Don't make videos like this. This is not for beginners…. 😡😡 You skip lot of steps that we don't know.. Please explain all steps with also keyboard shortcuts if you mention "Maya Modeling Tutorial For Beginners" with your title. Anyway video is really good. But the bad thing is this is not for beginners. Thanks.
Model in Blender render in Maya.
What happened with the first cilinder? It disappeared by 9:28?
This is not for beginners. Please do not lie to get views.
Really helped me a lot. Cheers!
Great video! thanks c:
This isn't really for absolute beginners just to warn everyone. Learn the navigation of Maya and the basic tools first before committing and giving up.
Great video 🙂
You are a good teacher bro' . . . . I've never used Maya before, this is my first contact but I understood all you said.
However, , I feel I could have drawn that can much much faster using SketchUp, a real can & a ruler.
Have you used sketchup and what are its differences with maya?
yea.. i thought its just me..the techniques he used are too advanced for a beginner… VERY GREAT VIDEO
Awesome video. Please what software did you use to do the effect before the beginning of this awesome video. I mean the little slideshow that shows your name jl mussi and the little car that passes as well as the lightening.
3 mins in and this guy lost me, "expand the front without telling anyone how"
This is definitely not for beginners. Very difficult to follow along. Instead of tutorial the title should say "watch me make a soda can".
hey how to use slide funtion, Urs Videos, are great, But some shortcut U dont even tell how to use them, (i'm not talking about Hotkeys ) : )
Wouldn’t like to be the space bar on your keyboard. It’s like your playing the base on it.
Thanks! Great tutorial!
Not really a beginner tutorial and you do things around a bout way but it got the job done.
3 mins into video first shortcut used with no explanation.
If your actually a beginners skip this video.
I'm not sure if you can truly call this a beginner tutorial. It is good for knocking rust off of your original skill in Maya. But if you are just starting, there is quite a bit left off. I don't know all the hotkeys, etc. I was getting it for a while but I don't even know what happened to the cylinder you made before when you started working on the top. Good for sharpening skills, not so much for true beginners.
Hi can you show what app you used for blue prints
Amazing tutorial! I watched this to knock some rust off my Maya skills and ended up learning a lot of new tricks I never knew about!
keyboard shortcuts thump down
I'm sure this is great but it's not for beginners, I lost track after 10 minutes cuz I couldnt follow anymore
I have a YouTube channel . Just still started

how do i expand the front
Sir how do you use the command on 34:16 that double-click to select the surfaces with the edges you select?? thanks!
I really wanted to get into this tutorial but I really struggled to follow as a true beginner to the software I didn't understand how to get around the software and what certain elements were doing and why and had to give up 🙁
Would very much like to know about that Bevel tool you've got configured also JL, if you don't mind. You can see it on the left @39:03. I've search through as many menus as I can see and I can't find that tool, I just seem to have the standard one, I like that you can use the scroll wheel on the mouse to change the bevel. Any help appreciated 🙂
Thank you for putting this video together JL. I have spent around 6 hours following it today, start/stop etc, this is my second model using Maya.
I've not got to the end of the video yet, but I started running into problems trying to select the edge loops when you were adding the external bevels at the bottom of the can. I received warnings about non-manifold vertices. I've tried cleaning the mesh and, to be honest, it made things worse.
I'm tempted to start over, but I want to avoid whatever I did wrong the first time round – any suggestions as to what I may have done which caused these non-manifold vertices?
I'm kinda shattered now so calling it a night, hope to hear from you, and thanks again for the video, if I don't get to finish the model I have learnt a lot of other very useful stuff during this which has been great. 🙂
idk i guess there could be a faster more memorable way to design a can on Maya.
Goddamn thank you so much
