Glad you guys made a video on this because actually trying to play this game was the most Herculean task I’ve ever attempted in my life. I was bored to tears, all the enemies and environments look the same, the dialogue was dry, and the combat is one note. No way I could slog through it what, 4 freaking times even if the overarching themes are compelling.

You're also not taking into account that Beauvoir loses her sanity and falls apart because she's having an identity crisis. As in, she's mentally Ill. Not to mention she's in a theater, putting on an act. You literally go and destroy that. You could go as far as saying the machines are blindly following human philosophy, kinda like real life. Seems pretty obvious actually. Machines follow into her bullshit story and they fall apart. Kinda like real life. Your take makes little to no sense. Mine might also be wrong. But theres no logic behind your interpretation and just sounds like something you read out of your socialist professors textbook. Thank you though for your thoughts because it actually made me think of the actual meaning.

The point Nietzsche made about God was once he was dead society would inevitably fall apart. Nobodys seems to mention this, and he was clearly right. Finding meaning in yourself for no reason was also a huge part of his philosophy but it's more than just no God, human finds meaning. No Yorha or humans (their god)…chaos and disorder arise and their existence is meaningless . It also falls apart.

Only de Beauvoir's famous quote isn't about the trappings of feminity making us women but rather how womanhood is done to women. I loved the game but that part felt like not even a surface level bad take but rather a wholly false representation of her as a philosopher. But hey way to predictably make the female philosopher about vanity. It definitely proves the damn point. (Not that there's any point saying this in a YouTube comment section, but hey, just in case someone else sees this and was also rolling their eyes.) You'd think Wisecrack of all channels would be able to fairly deal with and contextualize that one quote form The Second Sex. She in fact argued that femininity was fundamentally the source of our oppression. De Beauvoir isn't my favorite philosopher by any means, but it sucks to see her works so often presented in the same hollow, reductive way. Eh, still a great game and a great video. Keep up the good work.

I just finished my first E ending playthrough, and something curiously serendipitous happened: you see, I used dudeism as my springboard into Taoism/Stocism/Zen, I am also and ordained dudeist priest… And one of the people who offered their data to help me at the end had named their character dudeism. On top of this, I didn't know they would ask you so many times whether or not you wanted to actually delete your save data to help someone else in the E ending, so at one point I got frustrated and said aloud, "Shut the fuck up, Donny!!" XD

when i finished the game and the chose poped up i knew what hitting yes will do tnx to people warning me before, so i just sat there 15 minutes thinking, i am a completionist i need to get 100% on a game i like but in that moment i had stuff left to do, different endings, secrets and you name it. But something in me wanted to really hit yes really bad. I dont know why but i did it, and just sat there sad 20 minutes thinking i will never experience those endings. But after those sad 20 min i felt happy, like i did the wright thing. not so many games can make you feel like that

I loved the game, but I was kind of disappointed with how they tried to "answer" the question of what gives life meaning by the end. Obviously it wasn't much of an answer, exactly, but it's pretty common for Japanese games and anime to give a sort of, "life has meaning because friendship" cue uplifting/inspirational music It's not really much of an answer but, instead, it's one that simply triggers emotions which makes it "feel" satisfying, without actually answering the initial question.

give me a break , no disrespect here but you guys born yesterday? ever heard about philosophy or religion? aside from videogames or movies? i played Noir too, and i admit that some ideas were pretty good , and sick gameplay handsdown… its still a game made by the team that created Okami , but come on…… you want to ponder the meaning of life and not touch a book , try Planescape Torment. its not anime with a sexy cold babe that carries a microchip for a brain, but pure rpg that asks the real flesh and blood questions.

that dichotomy of freedom vs absolute meaning only exists ins the mind of some philosophers
in physics, specialy relativity, an object doesnt exist by itself, and need an arbitrary reference frame to have an existence
we need something else to exist, and to have a meaning
we have choice true, we have freedom, but it comes in a number of degrees, like the physical concept of degrees of freedom
you may think that ideals and metaphysicals concepts are useless, but i beg not, its the same with math
entirely madeup or is it? nobody till now answered the question if we invented math or discovered it
Einstein said he didnt invent anything and only used his intuition to discover what was already there

Welp not insult to all the christians. I have a christian friend who talked to me about all these stuff. Although i was raised as buddhist, I explained to him that Life is just accepting all the aspects. We don't need to question the purpose of our origin, even if no one say to do this and that, just keep moving forward. But of course, he explained, if there's no god, then who decides the moral value? I can kill u right here since there's no literal meaning to live. Yes, there's no literal meaning but we human will just choose to continue to move on 🙂

It's interesting watching this in the middle of a first time playthrough of Dark Souls. A game where I'd never have gotten past the Undead Berg if it weren't for the community resources people have devoted so much time into creating. People have probably put literal man-years of work into all those resources intended to help new players cope long enough to find their feet, and to help more experienced players excel – that may not be the same kind of sacrifice as in Nier Automata, but everyone's running on finite time, and the fact that many, many people have devoted weeks and months of their lives to making the game more accessible and intelligible is something that I'm astounded and impressed by.
